July's Birthstone: Learn About The Ruby

July's Birthstone: Learn About The Ruby

July’s birthstone ruby is one of the most precious stones of the gemstone family with its vibrant red colour.

The word ruby comes from the Latin word ‘rubens’, which means red. Ruby is said to be associated with love, wealth, and peace. In ancient times, people believed it to be a protection against harm.

Delicate stud earrings with a touch of modern glamour, showcasing a simple but uniquely beautiful spiral design that hugs a natural ruby. Rubies vary in shape, colour saturation and origin, which affects their value. Fine ruby glows with intense red in sunlight thanks to red fluorescence, which intensifies its red colour.

This stunning octagon cut rubellite, also known as red tourmaline, truly captured our hearts at Augustine Jewels. We created a bespoke design with two rows of glittering white diamonds, set in 9ct white gold.

Ruby, is associated with the sun due to its colour. The element chromium causes ruby’s red colour. Trace elements that become part of the mineral’s crystal structure cause variations in its colour.
