The gemstone that broke two records

Have you heard the news? The most expensive gemstone on Earth, the Pink Star diamond, was sold last week in Hong Kong.

This pink gemstone is unique in many ways: with its 59.60 carats, it already held the record for being the largest Fancy Vivid pink, Internally Flawless diamond ever graded by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America).

However, last week it further exceeded everyone's expectations, by becoming the most expensive gemstone to ever be sold: Hong Kong jewellery company Chow Tai Fook bought it at auction for $71.2 million, surpassing its original estimate of $60 million at Sotheby's Hong Kong.

Before last week, the record for the most expensive gemstone was held by the Oppenheimer Blue diamond, which was sold for $57.5 million at Christie's in Geneva last may.

This beautiful gemstone seems to be full of surprises! We wonder when it will next be on the news...?

If you like the look of this pink beauty, why not shop for our pink Morganite and pink Quartz jewels? You can find them here and here.
