Discover Topaz- Our Best Selling Gemstone of 2021!

Learn more about the beautiful Topaz! It featured in three out of five of our most popular pieces in 2021, so we'd like to tell you more about it.

Topaz was our most popular gemstone of 2021, with 3 out of 5 of our best selling products featuring the gorgeous stone. Topaz is a beautiful gem with many interesting traits, we’d like to tell you a little bit about it.

The name is derived from the Greek “Topazion”, the ancient name of the elusive St John’s Island in the Red Sea which was difficult to find. Topaz is a widely used gemstone due to it being one of the hardest naturally occurring minerals- rating 8 on the Mohs Scale. It is a silicate mineral of fluorine and aluminium, appearing in many colours including yellow, grey, red, blue and colourless and is mainly mined in Brazil, China and Russia. Topaz is also the Birthstone of November, sharing the month with Citrine!
During the 18th century gold rush, Brazilian Topaz became popular amongst European Aristocracy, with many beautiful crowns featuring the stone. Mined in Brazil, Imperial Topaz is known as the most valuable form of the gemstone and is found in a rare golden orange colour. The ‘Marbella’ Topaz is known as the worlds largest faceted Blue Topaz, weighing an impressive 8,225 Carats, which we know we’d like in our jewellery collection! Ancient Greeks believed Topaz could calm anger and balance strong emotions in those wearing it, it also symbolises honour and strength.
At Augustine Jewels we love Topaz! We use it in a lot of our jewellery, featured prominently in our South of France and Andalusian Collections. Here’s a beautiful selection for you to browse:
These vivacious Drop Earrings are from our most recent Andalusian Collection, inspired by the flourishing foliage and azure skies of southern Spain. They feature stunning octagon cut Peridot and Blue Topaz to create a bold look, certain to make sure your jewellery stands out from the crowd!
